CLASSROOM INSPIRATION SESSION
THE POWER OF OUR
SOCIAL BRAIN
Why working together is crucial, yet (often) remains a challenge
Humans are social beings. We live with each other, work with each other and really need each other. Cooperation is the key to success. This is even determined in evolutionary terms. But everyone is different and has, consciously or unconsciously, a different social position. That is why we often look for people who are just like us. We want to be accepted and feel safe in a larger group. The better our position, the greater our chance of survival.
This “silo thinking” with like-minded people also has a downside. It often makes it difficult to work with people who think differently. We do not want to lose our place in the group. We also don’t like the ‘social pain’ that comes with it.
“How can we circumvent the mechanisms of silo thinking so that we can work together again (or even better)?”
- Why are we evolutionarily made to connect and work together?
- Why do we tend to think in silos?
- Why is collaboration sometimes so difficult?
- What is ‘social pain’ and why can collaboration cause it?
- What can we do to break this silo thinking?
For both employees and managers who want to work better together by no longer thinking in silos
